Something About Everything About Something

December 10, 2011 - January 7, 2012

The expected and revered style of Jacques, a colorful blend of sacred mysticism and lighthearted folklore, is channeled through the theme of human relationships in Something About Everything About Something. The growth and cycle of relationships between men and women are of universal interest and the artist explores it with a unique touch, searching out what it is that propels the complexities of us and our relations to others. Symbols representing everything from conception, birth, love and sex, to death and the afterlife, appear within the works, with the artist finding inspiration in heartache and healing, codependency and cosmic forces.

Jacques’ fluid approach to his craft allows for a flowing quality fitting for an investigation into the constant flux of the universe. Geometrical forms and blocks of color are an easy relief on the eye, allowing the viewer to enter into an almost meditative state of focus on the beautiful composition of each work. This simplified aesthetic allows Jacques to tackle complicated themes with a sustained grace. Patterns of waves and leaves keep each painting undeniably tied to the natural world, while a large installation features a dark night sky, creating a space of connection to that which is larger than ourselves. Jacques also introduces a new style he has been incorporating into his painting, featuring all white canvases dense with colorful symbols taken from around the world, allowing us a glimpse into a new road the artist may travel.
