Just a few more hours until Word to Mother’s “Can’t Afford to be Broke” opens to the public. The installations are going to be amazing! Don’t forget to pick up a “Mother Money” bill if you arrive when they’re still available.

“Everyone’s perception of ‘Broke’ is different. It’s all relative to our situation. In situations where celebrity riches and materialistic lifestyles are portrayed by the media, we have been conditioned to feel more valued as an individual based upon what we own, rather than our actions.

People are emotionally broke, financially broke, and physically broke, from the structure of the society we live in. Unless we educate ourselves, work hard, and take the right risks, we won’t get anywhere. We won’t get out. We will continue to be broke. I can’t afford to be broke.”

Juxtapoz has a nice post for Word to Mother’s “Can’t Afford to be Broke,” which opens this Saturday, May 12th from 7-11pm. Word to Mother gives old objects a new life, highlighting the beauty of the worn wood he paints on by never covering it completely. WTM’s already-established talent just seems to be growing in recent months and this show encapsulates his drive to make paintings with the unique ability to be both satirical and heartwarming. The exclusive ‘zines and limited supply of “Mother Money” are items that are sure to be gone quickly, so come early and bring a friend.

Pay Me.” are a series of bats that can be seen in his new show, “Can’t Afford to be Broke” at White Walls gallery opening Saturday May 12, 2012. Along with the bats are dollar bills with the notorious MOTHER screen printed on top, other hand painted MOTHER items, a series of wood assemblage paintings, large scale works, and small pieces.” See the full post at VNA here

Word to Mother is bringing a new currency to San Francisco. The artist will be using these bills in his installation and they will be available at the opening of “Can’t Afford to be Broke,” though the supply is limited. I took a few photos of the Mother Money lain out to dry in the back room of White Walls and we, of course, couldn’t resist throwing handfuls in the air a couple of times. With a crazy installation, large wood assemblage paintings, an exclusive ‘zine and a number of smaller works, “Can’t Afford to be Broke,” is going to be a killer show. Make sure you make it out.

London-based Word to Mother took a break from painting to enjoy America’s favorite past time yesterday with a Giants game, but now it’s back to work! Eine‘s finished ‘Fiasco’ is being placed on one side of the “mobile public art gallery” ArtIsMobilUs today, with Word to Mother’s painting being placed on the other side. The mobile gallery will be outside White Walls for the opening of Word to Mother’s solo exhibit “Can’t Afford to be Broke,” Saturday May 12th, 7-11pm, and will move around the city on the weekends.

In line with his ongoing attempts to re-imagine the idea of touring and performance, ubiquitous Grammy-winning DJ/producer Skrillex announces a string of Canadian dates featuring some of the most bubbling names in Electronic Dance Music, all of whom will be traveling between cities on a private passenger train. At each stop, a festival event will take place, featuring performances by Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Diplo, Grimes, KOAN Sound and Tokimonsta on multiple stages to crowds in the tens of thousands.
