Revolutionary Prints: El Che by Ernesto Yerena

Like Che Guevara? Sick of the same old image you see on every tee and poster? Well Ernesto Yerena has something for you: two unique prints of the revolutionary icon in red and green. The image is bold yet personal, looking into a different side of the Che we all know (or think we know) so well.

The silent auction will include hot rod-related artwork from all-star artists! All proceeds benefit the Bay Area Women’s & Children’s Center (www.bawcc.org). In the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, the Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center is a unique presence. In this multi-ethnic neighborhood, BAWCC focuses entirely on the needs and issues of low-income families, children, and women. BAWCC offers a variety of direct services that address immediate needs and assists with achieving long-term stability. BAWCC’s advocacy, planning and policy work on issues of low-income children and families has had a positive impact on the lives of thousands since we opened in 1981. BAWCC’s long-term projects have resulted in the creation of playgrounds, a recreation center, school, and family center.

Bear of the Dead

Furthering Ernesto Yerena’s exploration of Latin culture is his stenciled collage, “Bear of the Dead,” a play on the Mexican holiday that we all know and love. This piece is a collaboration with Philip Lumbang, an artist who knows his bears. We love the highly decorative Mexican style combined with the sharp contrast that Ernesto is known for.

Adam 5100 Making It Happen

Adam 5100 has had a very busy summer and it looks like the fall won’t be any different. Among developing a toy for Terminal 22 and releasing a new print in London, Adam just opened a show at Oakland’s Basement Gallery. The show features prominent Bay Area sculptors and 3D artists, hand chosen by Juan Santiago.
Adam also has two exhibitions opening in October, 2009:
Green Day commissioned nineteen artists to collaborate on their new album, 21st Century Breakdown. These artists (including Adam 5100, Ron English, and Logan Hicks) have created an art exhibition inspired by Green Day’s music that will travel with the band on their upcoming tour. Stolen Space Gallery in London is also getting a piece of the pie with a week long show opening October 22nd.
On October 10th, Adam 5100 will be at White Walls for the opening of The Stencil Show. Stop by to talk to the cut happy artist about these exciting projects and about his new body of work.

Repeat Offender by Tes One

Tes One Repeat Offender

Repeat offenders can only be handled in one manner: another solo exhibition. That is what Tes One has coming up at Redletter 1 in Tampa, Florida. The appropriately titled Repeat Offender opens October 3rd, just days before Tes One’s appearance in SF for The Stencil Show. We like this snippet from the press release:

“Combining traditional and non-traditional techniques, Tes One creates contemporary works of art that contrast nature with technology, grime with grace. Allowing himself to find beauty in the mundane, he is able to juxtapose rejected landscapes with figurative illustrations, all the while identifying what is common between the conversing elements.”

Mike Shine's Menacing Mythology

The Bolinas Art Shack is an inspiring abode to say the least and Mike Shine has been getting the most out of it this summer. We are showing his ever darkening works at the Aqua Wynwood art fair in Miami, taking place this November. Mike sent over these preview shots of what he’s got going:

San Francisco Youth Report brought an impressive crowd up the stairs to Gallery Three, and everyone was in good spirits. Thanks to everyone who came out in support of our beloved Tenderloin artist. Look on for more details from Saturday’s opening reception at Gallery Three: home to D Young V’s works on paper until October 3rd, 2009.
